Persian Punch Thoroughbred Racehorse Trained in the United Kingdom
Persian Punch was placed, but did not win a Group 1 race. He was the People’s Champion. One of the most popular racehorses ever to grace the turf, Punch will never be forgotten by those whose lives he touched during his long and honourable career.
He had 63 starts winning 20 and placing in 19. His prize money tally was £1,008,785. His last victory, in the Jockey Club Cup at Newmarket brought him to 13 wins in Group company, equalling the incredible record of Brigadier Gerrard, Ardross and Acetengango for the most Group wins in Europe since the Pattern was introduced in 1971.
At the age of 10 he was just denied the Stayers Triple Crown of Goodwood Cup, Ascot Gold Cup and Doncaster Cup when Mr Dinos beat him into 2nd place at Ascot . He won three Jockey Club Cups, a Doncaster Cup, two Goodwood Cups, three Henry II Stakes and two Lonsdale Stakes.
